Start your day on the right foot

When your alarm goes off, do you turn around, turn it off and yawning beg for just 5 minutes more?, or do you jump out of the bed and start functioning non-stop?

The first moments in the morning setup the pace for the rest of the day, so here we tell you how to get the most out of it and avoid the most common obstacles.

Combat fatigue

Almost everyone has days when they feel tired, but if this happens too frequently, you probably need to improve your sleeping quality. Eliminate the obvious: at night don't drink beverages that have caffeine and don't exercise late at night; both things energize you. Go to bed 15 minutes earlier each night until you get to sleep 8 hours. Psychologists recommend that if you go to bed and stay awake and worried, get up and write down all your worrying thoughts. Go back to bed. If you still remain worried, repeat the exercise until you get to sleep before 15 minutes go by.

A good way to increase your energy levels is doing this simple yoga exercise. The position is called the "Lion Pose", which stimulates the blood stream and vital energy and eliminates lethargy.

Kneel on the floor and cross the front of the right ankle over the back of the left. The feet will point out to the sides. Sit back so the perineum snuggles down onto the on the top (right) heel.

Press your palms firmly against your knees. Fan the palms and splay your fingers like the sharpened claws of a large feline.

Take a deep inhalation through the nose. Then simultaneously open your mouth wide and stretch your tongue out, curling its tip down toward the chin, open your eyes wide, contract the muscles on the front of your throat, and exhale the breath slowly out through your mouth with a distinct "ha" sound. The breath should pass over the back of the throat.

Some texts instruct us to set our gaze at the spot between the eyebrows. This is called "mid-brow gazing". Other texts direct the eyes to the tip of the nose.

You can roar two or three times. Then change the cross of the legs and repeat for the same number of times.

Be organized

In the morning, don't start to go around in circles without knowing what to do. Be practical. Prepare the clothes you will be wearing the following day and also, make a list of the things you have to do, but don't outdo it, or you'll end up stressed up; if it's a long list, don't consider it as a whole, only focus on what you will be doing each time.

Try to establish a daily routine, but don't get obsessed: routines might work for some people, but they should not be the norm for each day. Being firm with the routine might make you too dependable of external factors. For example, if one day you are going to make fresh-squeezed orange juice and you don't have oranges, are you going to allow this to ruin all your day?

Gain energy

You have probably heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, you know why? When you have not eaten for 12 hours, your glucose levels are very low, which means that there is not enough energy flowing to your brain. Several studies have demonstrated that people who have a good breakfast have better concentration in the morning. Also that people who don't eat breakfast or have too little for breakfast are more likely to be overweight. They usually eat too many sweet things or greasy at the middle of the morning or eat too much during lunch.

Eating correctly during breakfast increases your metabolism. If you don't feel you can do it, take a fruit or yogurt to work and eat it at mid morning. If what you have is a cereal bowl, sprinkle it with dried fruits or seeds, as they have protein. Protein mixed with carbohydrates slows down the carbohydrate absorption, which makes the energy you get to last longer. The worst thing you can do is only have a cup of coffee, as the caffeine produces an increase in the blood sugar, followed shortly by a sudden decrease, which makes you want to have something sweet immediately.
